Terrible Ad

I hope the Yes on 2 people keep doing ads like this one:

Why? Because it is pretty insulting. It specifically endorses religion in government and implies there is something wrong with you if you think otherwise. It explicitly endorses creationism. It also portrays marriage as only about children -- therefore women are only about bearing children. It insults single parents -- regardless of the reason why they are single. So, even if your spouse died, this ad still implies you can't be a good parent. This ad appeals to people who already hate gay people, but I doubt it convinces a single person to vote for Amendment 2. Too bad they didn't waste more money on it.

i don't see hate in this commerical. i know many people, different cultures, different world views, different socio-economic standings -- because people have a man and woman as loving parents doesn't mean life is going to be perfect, but it is helpful. i am a divorced single mom -- i have to work to get my son positive male role models who have time. i have thought about some organizations that specialize in this, but one must be very careful. again, i don't think this commercial is hateful. it is a belief system that is shared by the christian, muslim and jewish faith. man and woman = marriage. that doesn't mean we hate those who do not believe that.

Are you just ignorant? Where did you see anything about being a bad parent if your spouse died or your single? Where did you see any hate? Fla. already has a law defining marriage as one woman and one man - did you know that? The amendment simple ensures that stays a law unless voted otherwise by a majority of voters, not the state government. If you choose an alternative lifestyle the privilege is ensured to you but state laws as well. However marriage has been clearly defined since the dawn of time as a man and a woman. Should we change that because you some people choose to behave otherwise - ABSOLUTELY NOT. Date who you choose freely as allowed by law but if you choose to be married then pick the opposite sex. Marriage was originally a religious ceremony not just 2 people saying vows somewhere. So if you choose to "marry" someone of the same sex have your private ceremony somewhere but don't expect it to be recognized as a legal marriage. You're spewing a lot of hate while condeming them for a "hate" commercial.

It does when you discriminate against them.

>Where did you see anything about being a bad parent if your spouse died or your single?

By suggesting that the only proper family is one man and one woman, any other family would be improper. Basic logic.

>Where did you see any hate?

Anything that suggests gay people shouldn't have equal rights is hate.

>Fla. already has a law defining marriage as one woman and one man - did you know that?

Yes. Such laws are unconstitutional.

>The amendment simple ensures that stays a law unless voted otherwise by a majority of voters, not the state government.

The people don't have a say in the definition of rights. The Constitution does.

>However marriage has been clearly defined since the dawn of time as a man and a woman.

This is nonsense. The most common form of marriage throughout history was polygamy. And there was no marriage at the dawn of time.

>Should we change that because you some people choose to behave otherwise - ABSOLUTELY NOT.

No one said you have to change. If you oppose gay marriage, don't marry a gay person.

>Date who you choose freely as allowed by law but if you choose to be married then pick the opposite sex.

Why do you get to decide this?

>Marriage was originally a religious ceremony not just 2 people saying vows somewhere.

Not according to the law. A notary public can marry people and they are prohibited from specifically including religious messages in the ceremony.

>So if you choose to "marry" someone of the same sex have your private ceremony somewhere but don't expect it to be recognized as a legal marriage.

The Constitution doesn't give you the right to decide this.

>You're spewing a lot of hate while condeming them for a "hate" commercial.

Nonsense.
